Donald D. Fountain, age 92, passed away Oct. 29 at The Bellflower Senior Living Center in Omaha. Don was born in Missouri Valley on May 10, 1934, to Richard M. and Mamie J. Fountain (Thompson). He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Willa M. “Billie” Fountain (Bunch) and his 11 siblings. Don served in the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years, including wartime tours in Korea and Vietnam. Following active duty, Don had a second career for the government as a civil servant at Offutt Air Force Base. He and Billie settled in Missouri Valley in 1971, where they continued to raise their family after a three and a half year assignment in England. In Mo. Valley, Don was especially well-known as a bus driver for the Southwest Iowa Transit Agency and as Billie’s partner in setting up special events at the Rand Center and for Friends of the Library. He is survived by daughters Pamela Birken (Richard) and Kathy Jensen (Martin); son Mark Fountain (Dawn); grandsons Gregory Fountain, Jordan Fountain, and Martin Jensen, Jr.; granddaughters Jeris Jensen McClure and Shelbi Jensen Lunin; great-grandsons Alexander Fountain, Martin Jensen III, and Spencer McClure; great-granddaughters Anastaciya Lunin and Evalina Lunin; and several nieces and nephews.

At Don’s request there will be no funeral or memorial. The family welcomes your stories and photographs of Don as a lasting tribute to his memory. They may be sent to Kathy Jensen at 1200 S. Shundi Rd., # 450224, Grove, OK 74345. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests planting a flower or putting up a bird feeder to celebrate Don’s lifelong love of nature.
